Refrigerant code was first for Freon, the most common naming method is the American Society of Heating and Refrigeration Engineering, this standard numbering method is the refrigerant code with his properties and chemical composition, as long as you know his chemical formula, you can write out his code. r stands for system (Refrigerant).
